Earth Notes: On Website Technicals (2025-11)

Updated 2025-12-07.
Tech updates: heading dates, intentionally blank, bad Apple, Trixie, another hero, AMP GSC.
Page build frequency is down with the shorter days, but ad revenue is up. I continue to try to make EOU pages more readable by people and machines!

: AMP GSC Purge

Removing remaining traces of the AMP version of EOU is a slow process.

Today I removed amp.earth.org.uk as a Google Search Console (GSC) property.

: We Do Need Another Hero

EOU articles benefit from a leading 'hero' image, for the desktop version. Though I often take photos for those, some third party art is good too!

Today EOU has its first hero image crafted by Ali Gillespie (AG) aka @alipunk@thecanadian.social. It is themed for the water music piece, targeting the hero image specification.

EOU is licensing these images, and also making them available under CC-BY-4.0 so that others can use them with attribution.

: Trixie in the House

From Tiny tweak for Pi OS, big makeover for the Imager, it seems that the latest refresh of Raspberry Pi OS 6.0 is based on Debian 13.2 ("trixie").

Time to get the focus group band back together for a server upgrade?

: Intentionally Blank

It seems that I cannot resist an obliquely-crafted dare.

I come from a family of people who publish things, often books.

Apple nonsense

I wonder what justifies this sloppy waste of bandwidth (Apple's IP address)?

: Heading Dates

Some time ago I added auto-insertion of time tags wrapped around a leading date in list items.

Now I have done the same for headings that start with an ISO 8601 date. This applies to all but h1 headings; they have their own optional date form indicating temporal coverage.

My aim is to improve machine readability and human accessibility.
